It’s just always fascinated me,” recalled Banks. “Fashion has always played a very pivotal role in my life. I would say that it was destined. It was never like an odd moment, with fashion. It just… it happened. Fashion has always been a key part in my life.”
Today, his accomplishments include appearances at prestigious events like New York Fashion Week and the upcoming Indie Fashion Week in Atlanta. “I’ll be participating in that show that’s my first time ever showing in Atlanta,” said Banks on the Atlanta event. “I’m sure I’ll be doing the usual New York Fashion Week, LA Fashion Week, and I’ll actually be coming back to Vicksburg in April for an event.”
A major highlight came in 2022 when the City of Vicksburg recognized Banks’ contributions by declaring a day in his honor. “That’s been one of my most pivotal accomplishments,” expressed Banks. His second fashion brand, Hoodvenchy, embodies his evolution as a designer, blending modern innovation with timeless high-fashion elements. These milestones reflect Banks’ relentless commitment to his craft and his ability to connect with audiences nationwide.
Giving back to his roots and inspiring others
Despite his national success, Banks remains deeply connected to Vicksburg, drawing inspiration from the support of his community. Local recognition, from casual encounters to public support, fuels his creative drive. “They walk up from Walmart or Kroger’s and someone’s like, ‘hey, you’re the designer. Love your work. Keep going!’ So this is very exciting of the brand and what I do,” said Banks.
He also dedicates time to mentoring aspiring designers, sharing a transparent view of the fashion world’s challenges and triumphs. Banks notes that resilience is key, and no dream is out of reach, no matter your age. “At no age are you too old to dream. Dreams are forever. You can dream no matter how old you are. You can go out and accomplish that dream. All it takes is one step,” mused Banks.
As Vicksburg gears up for its bicentennial celebration, Banks hints at a special role, bringing his talents back to the city that shaped his journey. “I love the community, especially Vicksburg. With me being from here, it’s always a heartwarming feeling to see people recognize me as Raymond Banks for design.”
