Vicksburg, MS: For the last 16 years, Earnie Hall of the River City Rescue Mission has been serving a big dinner complete with all the traditional fixings on Thanksgiving day. This year will be no exception. This is but one of the many things he’s done for the community and he gives all of his credit to God for having the ability to give.
Hall operates and directs the River City Rescue Mission on Washington Street. “The Mission” has been serving the community for years by feeding, clothing and housing those in need as well as operating a thrift store. They also save lives by helping people reach recovery from addiction and alcoholism through a faith based program.
“Last year we served over 350 homebound people, seeing who needed something. We bless the community and that’s just what I believe the Lord would have us do. We are given by others so we have it in our hearts to help other people. I believe that’s the Lord,” said Hall.
“People need love.”
Hall lives by the practice of loving one’s neighbor. He believes that whether you like someone or not, you should still give them a hug. “People need love,” he said. “You’d be surprised how many people come in here needing love and the Lord.”
Hall plans to spend the rest of his life helping the community of Vicksburg. “All I wanna do the rest of my life is serve people and that’s serving God.” Surely the world would be a more peaceful place if everyone practiced loving others in the way Hall does.
Feasting will begin around noon on Thanksgiving day, according to River City Rescue Mission employees. The meal is open to anyone who comes hungry. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 28 this year.
